PVC Profiles and PVC Alternatives

Contact Plastic Extrusion Manufacturer about PVC ProfilesPVC is one of the oldest thermoplastics and was first patented in the US in the late 1920’s. By itself PVC is hard and brittle at room temperature, but PVC is compatible with many additives that lend it a wide range of performance characteristics that can meet diverse application needs. PVC can be made very rigid and strong for use in construction and pipes, or as flexible as needed for use in fabric and carpets. PVC is extremely versatile with a wide variety of resin types. It is relatively inexpensive and easy to process. PVC profiles have pretty good chemical resistance, water and weather resistance, offer fair thermal stability, have excellent electrical insulation properties, have fair heat resistance, and are inherently flame retardant because PVC is chlorinated. PVC profiles can be clear or colored and can have a high gloss or matte finish.

Flexible PVC

Flexible PVC is an excellent material for the use in latex-free profiles. Flexible PVC costs less by weight than rubber or TPEs and provides significantly greater clarity. Flexible PVC is readily solvent-bonded, more kink-resistant (in tubing) and exhibits less neck-down (width/breadth narrows) when stretched. Flexible PVC is generally known to be the most cost-effective, high-performance material used in Latex-free profiles.

We produce a myriad of customer PVC profiles that run the gamut of resin types from Rigid PVC, Flexible PVC, to Coextrusions using both. We customize PVC profiles to meet indoor and outdoor needs. Keller PVC profiles have been used in the following industries, among others:
  • Automotive
  • Construction / Housing
  • Consumer / Retail
  • Electrical
  • Furniture
  • Healthcare / Medical
  • Home Office
  • Lawn and Garden
  • Marine
  • Military
  • Recreational / Sporting Goods
  • Toys

There are no community PVC recycling programs. Corporate and industrial recycling programs manufacture waste back into their products, as well as process post consumer PVC construction materials in order to reduce the amount of PVC reaching landfills.

Alternatives to PVC

Contact Plastic Extrusion Manufacturer about PVC ProfilesWhile PVC is considered a very good overall plastic material in terms of price and properties, it is currently receiving some negative publicity due to the presence of chlorine in its chemical makeup. With today’s concerns for the environment, some of our customers are choosing other “greener” materials to meet their application needs. We have been working on alternatives to PVC for quite some time and have come up with a number of new materials that offer similar properties to PVC along with attractive pricing.

Flexible and Semi-rigid PVC Alternatives

On the flexible PVC side, we have developed an alternative material to PVC that offers the same flexibility with similar outdoor weathering properties as PVC but has improved high and low temperature performance. The material is available in black and a wide variety of custom colors. A semi-rigid PVC replacement material is also available. Both of these materials are comparably priced to PVC.
Rigid PVC Alternatives
On the rigid side, we have three alternatives to PVC from which to choose. The first one is a general purpose replacement offering similar properties and pricing. The second one is a flame retardant material that is also RoHS compliant in that it does not contain any Bromine, Chlorine and/or heavy metals. The last one is a Green material (source is post consumer and post industrial recycled material) that offers outstanding impact strength, colorability, and can be clear.
